Deepa Ahluwalia, Leanne Hughes & Rohan Thompson
Deepa Ahluwalia graduated with her Masters of Social Work in 2001. In her role as the Equity and Inclusion Officer for the Waterloo Region District School Board, Deepa is responsible for raising the equity consciousness of staff, facilitating open communication and dialogue with the community, providing expertise related to equity and social justice, and implementing plans and providing system leadership pursuant to the WRDSB’s Equity and I digenous Action Plan. Together with her partner, they are raising two little social justice activists.
Leanne Hughes has been an educator with the Waterloo Region District School Board since 2006. She is a learning services consultant whose portfolio includes secondary mathematics, student well-being, and equity. Formerly a biology and mathematics teacher, Leanne now embraces her role as part of the Equity Working Team, where she engages educators in conversations and learning experiences that challenge their biases and empower them to act.
Rohan Thompson is the Workplace Equity Manager with the Peel District School Board. Rohan has always had a focus and commitment to youth development, crime prevention through social development, community development, anti-racist practice and advocacy. Rohan holds two degrees from Wilfrid Laurier University including his Masters in Social Work. In his spare time, Rohan is also passionate about the sport of football and has been a youth football coach for over 12 years.
